Estate Planning and COVID-19

Updated: Jan 25, 2023

AUBURN, California

People are thinking about their estate plans more than ever with the threat of COVID-19. So how can you get your estate plan in order while still being safe?

At Koons & Riswold, we have established safety protocols to ensure that you and your family stay safe while creating an estate plan.

First and foremost, all in-person meetings at our office are conducted after our office is thoroughly sanitized. We are only allowing one appointment at a time at our office so there is no risk of multiple clients in the waiting room at any time. Additionally, our staff will wear masks for all interactions.

To begin the process of creating your estate plan, our estate planning questionnaire will be emailed or mailed to you. Through this questionnaire, we can obtain most of the necessary information we need to begin working on your estate plan.

After reviewing your answers to our questionnaire, an initial consultation can be conducted in our large conference room, where meetings of 4 people or less allow for six foot social distancing. Alternatively, the initial consultation can be conducted over the phone, from the safety and comfort of your home.

If we need any additional information from you after the initial consultation, we will contact you by phone or email to avoid any further in-person contact.

Finally, when your estate plan is finished, we will have a meeting with you, an attorney, and a notary in our large conference room to sign all of your estate planning documents. We use only sanitized pens, and are able to keep six feet of distance at all times.

Additionally, if you or a family member has any special need that would require greater precautions, we are happy to accommodate for whatever is necessary to make everyone involved feel safe.

So, if you are thinking about getting your estate plan in order, we are happy to assist you from a safe (six feet away) distance, in a sanitary environment to get this accomplished. Feel free to contact us today to get started.
